> Come In e.V.

We are a team of committed friends with various educational and religious backgrounds and we have set our hearts on supporting underprivileged youngsters. The charity was founded in February 2009 and in May of the same year we received a prize from the ‘Körberstiftung Hamburg’ for our entry to the competition with the theme ‘Anstiften’ (initiate). The first phase of the project was implemented at the beginning of the new school year 2009/2010 in a school in southern Hamburg known for its population of residents with non-German origins and high rate of young residents with a criminal record.
In the first year, twenty youngsters were supported by COME IN e.V. and the number has now grown to 100 pupils for the 2010/2011 school year. These pupils have had negative experiences at school, possibly with teachers, have often grown up without a role model, and would otherwise have absolutely no hope of finding an apprenticeship or job. They are exposed to the mass media and vulnerable to its advertising campaigns. Pressure is put upon them to be like others but their material desires cannot be satisfied because many of them live in poverty. In order to solve this problem, they resort to crime.
We believe in:
1. Educational Support
Through age-differentiated role play and participation in theatre projects, pupils learn how to deal with conflict and crisis. In this way, they learn the importance of tolerance, courtesy, willingness to help others, fairness and discipline.
2. Education as the best prevention of poverty, crime and social isolation
Pupils are supported with their homework in small groups and given the opportunity to widen their cultural horizons with visits to museums, art galleries, libraries or the theatre.
3. Facilitating cross-cultural understanding
Cross-cultural and inter-religious exchanges support understanding and dialogue.
COME IN e.V. is convinced that the best way of achieving these goals is
- to have the closest possible collaboration with parents and guardians
- to work with small groups
- to recognize and reward the smallest of achievements with prizes such as books, vouchers or theatre tickets.
