> Free Evangelical Schools Berlin (FESB)

We are committed Christians in Berlin. Our supporting association, the „Free Evangelical Schools Berlin (FESB)“, was founded in 1988 and is by now operating four schools.

In Berlin, a city called “poor but sexy” by its own governing mayor, a city in which Christian and moral virtues are decreasingly common standard, we want to set an example. By practicing bible oriented pedagogic we want to counteract the continuing loss of Christian values.

Therefore the Free Evangelical Schools Berlin base everyday life at school on the message of the Bible in order to help the students on their path towards leading responsible and purposeful lives in our society. Daily short devotions in the beginning of the day, regular school services, counselling and religious education are a part of everyday life in our schools.

Right from first grade on our students are learning English. One of our partners in this is Young Life, a non-denominational, Christian youth organization in Germany that was founded in the USA years ago. To communicate sustainable core values, positive future prospects and a healthy self-esteem remain paramount, also in this partnership.

The FESB receive only a bit more than half of the costs arising in a public school. The rest we have to cover by income-depent school fees and donations. In addition more space will be required because more and more students are attending the FESB. Therefore we have to finance further buildings beside running the schools.

At present more than 600 students are learning in our four schools, the „Christburg-Grundschule“ elementary and the „Corrie-ten-Boom-Realschule“ middle school in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, the „Arche-Grundschule“ elementary school in Berlin Hellersdorf and the „Immanuel-Schule“ elementary school in Berlin Spandau. Partly they come from socially deprived families and need financial support. With our work we provide a bit more educational equality.

Our association is a founding member of the “Verband der Evangelischen Bekenntnisschulen in Deutschland e.V., VEBS” (Association of Evangelical Confessional Schools in Germany membership corporation). FESB e. V. is furthermore a member of the “Association of Christian Schools International“ (ACSI) - an association which assists in establishing partnerships abroad - and of the "Verband deutscher Privatschulen Landesverband Berlin-Brandenburg e. V.”.
