> Cultural Exchange Program

a) Cultural exchange program for US students including German language classes as well as lectures on German culture and the basics of German law

We strive to foster the peaceful relationship between both countries and help each to understand the partner country's culture, history and language. Therefore, in order to prepare American students for their studies abroad, American Friends of Germany holds presentations on study programs at German and European Universities. We offer an exchange program as an introduction to German culture. Another integral part of the program is German language classes offered by partner organizations, such as the Goethe Institut San Francisco. Lectures on the basics of German law are offered as well.

b) Fund scholarships for American students to pursue graduate programs in Germany

c) Assist the Steuben-Schurz Gesellschaft e.V. in placing American interns with companies and organizations in Germany and in providing internships to German graduates in US companies.

Final decisions for the placements are done on a case by case basis and are undertaken by the Steuben-Schurz Gesellschaft e.V.

> Research on “`German Communities´ in the US”

American Friends of Germany conducts research on German communities in the US and plans to issue a publication on the outcome of the research.

The goal is to disclose the roots of Americans of German decent living in these communities, the reasons when and why they or their ancestors immigrated to the US, how their daily lives are influenced by German culture and language, and what relationships, if any, they still have to contemporary Germany and to their particular community in Germany.

> Cross-border philanthropy

We support a wide number of charities in Germany and we conduct charitable activities outside the United States through contributions, grants, or other forms of charitable giving. We follow strict grantmaking procedures which require that recipients must be approved by the IRS and German tax authorities as charitable organizations under US and German tax law.

Our goal is to provide US donors the means to support charitable organizations in Germany by using American Friends of Germany as an intermediary organization. Individuals as well as companies can take advantage of American Friends of Germany's services and can further charitable work abroad. At the same time they will receive the maximum tax benefits under US tax law.

In addition to assisting US donors, charitable organizations in Germany use American Friends of Germany's expertise and advantageous legal structure to achieve their fundraising goals in the US.
